Colleen Jacobs
Colleen Jacobs has been sewing since she was 9 years old. She started out sewing clothing for herself and her dolls, participating in 4-H and in modeling her creations in fashion shows at the Huron County Fair in Ohio. Her mother exposed her to many forms of hand work including hand embroidery, crochet, knitting and macramé. She became interested in quilting in the 1980’s after her mother gave her a quilt her grandmother had made for her as a baby, a Triple Irish Chain. Unfortunately she never finished her first quilt which was the Ohio Star Pattern, she had made cardboard templates and hand marked and pieced the blocks just as her grandmother did it! Since then Colleen has modernized her techniques with classes and sharing information with many other quilters. Mostly she credits trial and error as her main instructor and has made many quilts from baby to king sized on her original Bernina 830 and her newer 730E. Styles include appliqué, traditional piecing, paper piecing, Hawaiian quilting, free motion quilting and thread painting. Colleen is married to Bruce and the mother of Kaitlin (13) and Zachary (11), they live in Brandy Station, VA.
Colleen is a certified Bernina instructor and teaches several classes at 145 Art & Design Studio including Monday Mastery Classes, Wednesday’s UnFinished Objects Day (an open sewing day for help with any sewing project) and Studio 145 Club which she holds the third Friday of each month to demonstrate new techniques, specialty feet, and unique products and projects… all aimed to inspire your creativity, imagination and love of sewing.
